Lynn E. "Bud" Alter, 79, of Tarentum, passed away at home on Saturday, June 24, 2017. He was born December 6, 1937 in Harrison Twp., son of the late N. Lynn and Miriam (Humes) Alter. Bud lived his entire life in Tarentum. He was a High School English teacher for Apollo Ridge for 32 years and also worked at the Valley News in distribution for 60 years. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge and founder of Cellar Dwellers Car Club in Tarentum. Bud graduated in 1955 from Tarentum High School and earned a BA from Clarion College and a Master''s from Indiana University. He was an avid gardener, automobile enthusiast and loved traveling to his camp in Somerset. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Frances M. (Magoc) Alter; children Jonathan Alter, Natrona Heights, Mark (Brenda Marshall) Alter, Saxonburg and Brian (Christie Chapman) Alter, Cabot; 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. He is also survived by a sister Nancy (Michael) McCarty, Cranberry. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey L. Alter, May 24, 2017, and a Granddaughter Angel Alter. A memorial service for Mr. Alter will be conducted in Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge on Saturday,July 1,2017 at 12:00 Noon with his Pastor Rev. Gregory L. Spencer, officiating.
