William B "Bill" Pettigrew

July 15, 1939 — June 11, 2016

William B. "Bill" Pettigrew, 76, of Tarentum, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Allegheny Valley Hospital. Born July 15, 1939 in Creighton, son of the late Thomas B. Pettigrew and Mary E. (Deets) Pettigrew, Stuart. Bill lived most of his life in the area where he was a Custodian for Highlands School District retiring after 20 years and was lovingly known as Papa Smurf. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge and proudly served Highland Hose Fire Company for 50 years. Bill graduated from Tarentum High School and was very active in the fire hall. He also enjoyed Pittsburgh Sports and was a friend and good neighbor to all. Survivors include his siblings, Charles "Tom" (Belva) Pettigrew, Colombia, SC, Margaret E. Pettigrew-Pobicki, Natrona Heights, John C. Stuart, Clover, SC and Kathleen M. Stuart (Paul) Wojcik, Stevenson, VA. Also surviving are 7 nieces, 4 nephews and many great nieces and nephews and his friend William Brucker. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Pettigrew Mahan and Brother Earl Stuart. Visitation today, Tuesday, June 14 from 2-4 and 6-8PM in the Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526 where services will be held on Wednesday at 10AM with Rev. Jeffrey A. Vanderhoff, officiating. Burial will be Private in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. Highland Hose will hold services today at 7PM in the Funeral home.
