John Savka, Jr., 90, of Springdale Twp., passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at home. He was born May 7, 1925 in Springdale, PA. Around the age of 4, he moved to Creighton. He was the son of the late John and Anna (Tapovcik) Savka, Sr. John graduated with honors from East Deer High School in 1943. He started working at PPG in Creighton in 1943. After two years at PPG, John was drafted into the Army and worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. before being moved to the Air Force. After the Air Force, he returned to work at PPG and worked there for 46 years. In 1958, he married Anne Hrehovcik formerly of N.J. and they were married for 58 years. They lived in Springdale for 57 years. John was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Tarentum. John was a member of the American Legion. When he was younger he played the accordion and was an avid bowler. He was also in the choir and Men''s club of Sts. Peter and Paul. John and Anne had three children, Stephen (RoxAnn) Savka, Economy, Karen Anne and significant other Thomas Halpin, Springdale Twp., and Mark (Elizabeth) Savka, Lexington, OH. John has six grandchildren, Nathaniel, Tabitha, Stephanie, Alexandra, Nicholas and Gabrielle. Also surviving is a sister Ann Pavlovic and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Edward Savka, and sister-in-laws Barbara and Dorothy. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8PM Tuesday in the Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526 where a Parastas will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am followed by a Divine Liturgy at 10 AA in Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Tarentum with Rev. Wesley M. Mash, officiating. Burial in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Twp. followed with a luncheon at Sts. Peter & Paul Church hall.
