Dr Robert W Kelly

Dr. Robert W. Kelly, Sr., Col., US Army, passed away on March 11, 2016, surrounded by family, at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, Cabot. He bravely fought cancer for many years. Dr. Kelly was the son of Charles W. and Ruth I. (Lord) Kelly, of Creighton. He graduated from East Deer-Frazer in 1964. He completed a B.S. in Chemistry from Allegheny College and received his medical degree in 1973, from Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Wake Forest University in N.C.Through the military he did a General Surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii and then an Army practice in Hinesville, Georgia. Upon completing his Army responsibilities, he returned to Alle Kiski Valley, to start his solo General Surgery practice at Allegheny Valley Hospital. After several years he rejoined the Army and was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan as a trauma surgeon during the height of hostilities. He rose through the ranks and eventually retired as an Army Colonel. He received the Bronze Star for his outstanding military service.Dr. Kelly joined Allegheny General Hospital as trauma surgeon in his later practice years. He then became a burn surgeon at West Penn Hospital where he worked until he retired in August 2015.He is survived by his wife, Tina (Pavlik) Kelly and beloved dog Gizmo, son Robert W. Kelly Jr. and fiancée Kelly McCreary, daughter Bethany (Mark) Glogowski, and grandchildren Maxx Kelly and Tyler Henefeld, and Gillian and Wyatt Glogowski. Other loving survivors include his brother Dr. Bruce (Dolly) Kelly and sisters-in-law Lorraine (James) Cristillo and Nancy (Matthew) Reading. Nephews and Nieces; Jason Kelly, Dr. Matthew (Heather) Kelly, Dr. Diana (Phil) Raub, James A. Cristillo, Missy (B.J.) Reiher, Katie (Dave) Zsolcsak, and Matthew Reading. Great Nieces and Nephews: Charles Cooper, and Jackson Kelly, Benjamin Raub, Libby, James, Madelaine, and Nick Cristillo, A.J. and Macie Reiher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Kelly, in-laws Andrew and Mary Pavlik, brother-in-law James W. Cristillo, and his beloved dogs Squirt, Abby and Molly.A private funeral service was held on Monday, March 14, 2016 in Janes United Methodist Church, Creighton. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made to your local food bank or Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, Cabot, PA.
