George D. Geahry, 87, of Rural Ridge, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, at the home of his daughter in West Deer Township, surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Tarentum, a son of the late Fred and Margaret L. (Goldinger) Geahry. George lived most of his life in Rural Ridge and his early years in Natrona. He was an elementary school teacher for Poff Elementary School in Hampton Township for 32 years, retiring in 1992, where he taught fifth-grade science and was a head teacher. George also worked at Penn Salt in Natrona, PPG, Creighton, and Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge. A Korean War veteran of the Army, he served in the infantry from 1951-53. He was a permanent member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and PSEA-Retired and also the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member Walter Chapel United Methodist Church, Rural Ridge, where he served on several committees. He was a 1946 graduate of Har-Brack High School and the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his undergraduate and master's degrees. George enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, model railroading and tinkering in his garage and was an avid reader. Survivors include his children, Alison H. (David) Lapp, of West Deer Township, twins Darlene G. (Richard) Hinman, of Indian Land, S.C., and David G. (Kathryn) Geahry, of Indiana Township; and his grandchildren, Margaret "Maggie" (Jonathan) Rice, Rachel Lapp, Brandon, Erin and Morgan Geahry. Also surviving are his siblings, Ann Critchlow, of South Bend, Ind., Henry L. (Eileen) Geahry, of Tarentum, and W. James (Carol) Geahry, of Brackenridge. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mildred S. (Alexeychik) Geahry; and siblings, Fred E. Geahry and Peggy J. Gustafson.
