Jeffrey L Alter

April 6, 1964 — May 24, 2017

Jeffrey L. Alter, 53 of Tarentum, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at his home following a long and hard fought battle with severe depression. He was born April 6, 1964 in Natrona Heights, son of Lynn E. "Bud" and Frances M. (Magoc) Alter of Tarentum. Jeff has lived his entire life in Tarentum and worked as an Operations Manager in Building Maintenance for many years. Jeff was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge and Outdoor Life Lodge in Fawn Twp. He was a 1982 graduate of Highlands High School and Forbes Vocational Technical School. He enjoyed gardening and grilling outdoors. His love for fishing was surpassed only by the size of his heart and love for his family. His compassion is evident in the multiple lives that have been saved and improved by his organ donation and dedication to research for suicide prevention. Besides his parents he is survived by a daughter Shelby McAndrews of North Carolina, granddaughter Abby of Colorado; twin Brother Jon Alter, Natrona Heights, Brother Mark (Brenda Marshall) Alter, Saxonburg and Brian (Christie Chapman) Alter, Cabot. Also survived by uncle, Thomas (Mary Jo Yeasted) Magoc, Frazer Twp., aunts Marie (Magoc) Tartamella, Brackenridge and Nancy (Michael) McCarty, Cranberry Twp.; and nephews Cory, Sam, Alec, Devin and niece Kali. Jeff was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Lynn and Miriam Alter, maternal grandparents Thomas Magoc and Margaret Pochet, Uncle Robert Magoc and niece Angel Alter.
