Dorothy L. (Martin) Kania, 88, of East Deer Twp., passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia Lutheran Health Center, Cabot. Dorothy was born to the late Karol and Johanna (Banyik) Martin on April 30, 1928 in Tarentum. She lived in the valley all her life and was a dedicated wife and mother. Dorothy was a lifelong active member of Holy Martyrs Parish and the former St. Clement Parish in Tarentum. She was a member of Christian Mothers, Rosary Society, and Catholic Daughters of America. She was a volunteer for the Natrona Heights Meals on Wheels. Dorothy worked for the late Dr. Montgomery as a nurse''s aide for several years after her graduation from Tarentum High school in 1946 and her marriage to John in 1949. Later in her life she worked for the Valley News Dispatch in Tarentum. Dorothy loved to play cards with her friends even hosting the card event at Concordia on several occasions. She enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was an avid baker, cook and home maker. She provided her family with many fond Christmas memories. Christmas time and all holidays including birthdays and anniversaries were always joyous family occasions. Her grandchildren were her pride and she immensely enjoyed her time with them. Survivors include her children Charles (Rita) Kania, Natrona Heights, John M. Kania, Tarentum and Mary Beth (Richard) Brake, Kittanning. Dorothy is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelly Foster, Richard Brake, and Jonathan Brake and her great grandchildren, Rylee Maldet and Braeden Maldet. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Sylvia Kania, Chicago, Illinois, Patricia Kania, Tampa, FL, Sylvia Kania, Natrona Heights and brothers-in-law, Frank Kania, Covina, CA and Fred Kania of Chicago. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John C. Kania, five sisters, Margaret Trettel, Helen Martin, Elsie Martin, Martha Odrey and Elizabeth Severa, and a great grandson Colin Maldet. Friends and relatives will be received 2-8PM Wednesday in the Duster Funeral Home,Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526 where a prayer service will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am followed by a Christian funeral mass at 10 AM in Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum.
