Peter J. "Pete" Varos, 73, of Tarentum, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 at Platinum Ridge Nursing Home, Brackenridge. He was born December 19, 1943 in Harrison Township, son of the late Peter J. Varos and Anna M. (Knasko) Varos Grondwalski. Pete lived most of his life in Tarentum and Brackenridge where he was employed as a Caster Operator for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge for 43 years, retiring in 2007. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Air Force. A member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Brackenridge, Oregon Hunting and Fishing Club, Tarentum Council since 1998, USWA Local 1196 and was very active in the Union affairs. Pete graduated in 1961 from Har Brack High School and enjoyed travelling, hunting, fishing and reading. He was also Pittsburgh sports fan and enjoyed driving his Corvette. Pete especially enjoyed his family, children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Joyce (Hilliard) Varos; children, Peter "Butch" Varos, Pensacola, FL, Quinn (Lisa) Varos, Gold Bar, Washington and Jennifer (Joe) Wingard, Natrona Heights; grandchildren, Ryan and Alex Varos, Rhys and Cian Varos and Gavin and Grace Wingard. Also surviving are his siblings, Joanne Maeder, Brackenridge and John (Rose) Grondwalski, Tarentum. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his step father Harry Grondwalski and sister Patricia Schuster. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday in the Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526 where services will be held on Friday at 11 AM with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Frank M. Yesko, officiating. Oregon Club will meet in the Funeral home Thurs 7PM. Burial in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. Family suggests contributions to the Scleroderma Society.
