David S. Szymkowiak

David S. Szymkowiak, 62, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 24, 2026 with his family by his side following a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born December 7, 1963 in Natrona Heights, a son of the late Lawrence Szymkowiak and Betty (Wohlfeil) Knigge. David lived most of his life in Greensburg and Lower Burrell. He was a disabled veteran who proudly served in the US Navy. David was of the Catholic faith and a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 0344 and the Disabled Veterans. He was a graduate of Shaler High School and enjoyed watching western movies, listening to music, collecting Navy memorabilia, especially bald eagles, coins and unique knives. David was known to occasionally gamble online. Most of all David loved being with his family and attending family outings and holidays. He also enjoyed face timing his brother Michael and family from Scotland. Thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and care specialists at the VA Hospital and Forbes Cancer Institute, Monroeville.

Survivors include his son Stephen Szymkowiak, of San Antonio, TX; 3 grandchildren and a great grandson. Also surviving are his siblings, Michael (Eilidh) Szymkowiak, of Scotland and Kathy (Thomas) Trana, of Minnesota and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Karen Siriano and his beloved dog Lexi. A special thanks to his cousins Bridgette and Tom Ladie for their daily and constant care and companionship.
