Dr. James L. Hughes, III

  James L. Hughes, III, M.D., 83, of Sarver, PA passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Dr. Hughes was born in Camden, NJ to the late Dr. James L. Hughes, Jr. and Marion (Costello) Hughes. Prior to living in Sarver, PA he lived for many years in Haddonfield, NJ. Jim attended Bishop Eustace High School in Pennsauken, NJ lettering in three sports. He was a graduate of The University of Notre Dame, which led him to Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia where he was a member of AOA Honor Society. Dr. Hughes was a Major in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and worked as an Interventional Cardiologist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ. Throughout his career he was known for his hard work, dedication and passion for helping his patients.

More than anything, Jim was a devoted father and grandfather, always up for a game of basketball or catch. His priority was always academics. He provided guidance, support and tireless encouragement, often telling his grandchildren to “Study like a champion today.” In his free time, Jim enjoyed hunting and fly fishing, sharing his enthusiasm with his grandchildren and lifelong friends and always with his beloved dogs by his side. 

Dr. Hughes is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dr. Jane (Schilling) Hughes of Sarver, his daughters: Dr. Jane Hughes and her husband Dr. Kurt Heil of Mars, and Dr. Marion A. Hughes and her husband Dr. Gregory Bump of Pittsburgh, and his son James C. Hughes and his wife Christina Hughes of Los Angeles, CA. Also survived by grandchildren: Beck, Ryan, Nate, Henry, Charlotte, and Isla, and sisters Marion Geib of Ocean City, NJ and Elizabeth (Joseph) Burns of Wellington, FL. 

All services and burial for Dr. Hughes will be private to the family.
