Eleanore Racic-Dunmire (née Strelec), age 93, of Cheswick, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025. Born on August 22, 1932, in Tarentum, PA, she graduated from Tarentum High School in 1950 and spent her life bringing light and laughter to everyone she met.
Eleanore worked for many years at A&P Grocery and later as a sales representative for Miracle Ear. She was first married to Vincent Racic (deceased), and later to Alva Dunmire (also deceased). She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings—brothers Joe, Tom, John and Frank (Fritz), and her sister Ann. She is survived by her beloved sister, Mary Deriso (née Strelec), as well as loving stepchildren, grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A devoted Catholic, Eleanore was a longtime member of Our Lady of Victory Church. She lived her faith through service, volunteering with the Food Bank, Ladies of Charity, Allegheny Valley Hospital, Springdale Library, the Springdale Strawberry Festival, and at the voting polls. She also delivered meals, visited those in need of companionship, and offered kindness to everyone she encountered.
Eleanore had a vibrant personality and an enduring zest for life. She never missed a Jack Tady polka bus trip, loved swimming in the summer with friends, and had a passion for card games, puzzles, and board games—especially when a little pocket change was involved. Known for lighting up every room she entered, she had a warm smile, a playful spirit, and a gift for making others feel seen and special. A well-timed compliment, a clever comment—or a signature wink—were her trademarks.
Her unwavering positivity, deep faith, and joyful heart helped her face life’s challenges with grace. Those who knew and loved her will remember Eleanore as a bright light—cheerful, compassionate, and endlessly spirited.
