Elizabeth Collins

Elizabeth “Betty” Collins, 94, died of age-related infirmities on July 3, 2022 in Massillon, OH. Betty was born September 2, 1927 in Natrona, PA, the daughter of Gavin and Elizabeth (Muir) Chittick. On July 7, 1955 she married the love of her life, William Collins, and they shared their life together until Bill’s death in 1999.

Betty was a happy homemaker, and was very skilled in crochet and knitting. In her younger years, she was an active member of the Daughters of Scotia. When her twin sister, Jean Lynn, passed away in 1969, Betty became a surrogate mother to Jean’s children, Bonnie and David Lynn, and loved them both as though they were her own.

Over the last 20 years, Betty joined Bonnie and her partner Dave Oberholtz and their Shelties Clyde, Laddie, Gizmo, and Class, on numerous camping adventures throughout the eastern US, making wonderful discoveries and memories.  

Betty is survived by her sister, Violet Sagath; nieces, Bonnie Lynn (David Oberholtz), Elizabeth Joyce (Greg Smith), Suzanne (Martin) Braunlich, and Ruth (Al) Medved.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her brother, Barr Chittick, her sister, Jean Lynn, her nephews, David Lynn and Barr Chittick, and her brothers-in-law, Samuel Sagath and David Lynn.

The family extends special thanks to Crossroads Hospice and The Laurels of Massillon for their care and kindness to Betty.

Visitation Friday, 10 am until the time of service at 11 am in Duster Funeral Home, Inc., 347 E. 10^th Ave., Tarentum 724-224-1526 with Rev. Robert D. Dayton, Pastor, Central Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, officiating. Entombment will be in Mt. Airy Mausoleum, Natrona Heights.
