Gene Wick, 86, formerly of Brackenridge, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, where he was a resident for the past 10 years. He was born March 15, 1934 in Brackenridge to the late Peter and Mary (Sowanick) Weremeychik.
Gene graduated from Har-Brack High School in 1952. He then earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Grove City College, where he graduated cum laude in engineering, and a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as an electrical engineer for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. in Brackenridge and he also worked at US Steel & Commonwealth Aluminum in Lewisport, KY.
Gene enjoyed reading, especially the Bible, and he was active in Bible study. In addition to being a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, Gene was an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team.
Survivors include his sister, Barbara Tanikella, of Willow Street, PA and seven nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Delores “Dolly” Kristine; his brothers in law, Frank Kristine and Murty Tanikella; and his niece, Ruth Kristine. The family appreciates the kindness and care that he received as a resident of Concordia Lutheran Ministries.
Graveside services and burial were conducted in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. Visit dusterfh.com
