James J. Strobel, 80, formerly of Fawn Township, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at Fair Winds Manor Nursing Home, Winfield Township. He was born November 1, 1937 in Brackenridge to the late John Gottleib and Anna (Capellman) Strobel. James was a retired Sr. Staff Technologist for ALCOA where he did wet chemical analysis. He was a member of Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum and the St. Vincent de Paul Society of his church. He had a deep compassion for people in need. James graduated from Har Brack High School in 1955 and attended University of Pittsburgh for two years. Jim was an avid gardener, hunter, fisherman and bird watcher. He enjoyed travelling and was the “sit-down” comedian at Fairwinds Nursing home. He loved making people laugh, so he told many jokes.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Carol (Smith) Strobel; children Jeffrey Strobel, South Buffalo Twp., Cynthia (Daniel) Sagath, Fawn Twp. and Nancy (Kim) Buening, Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren Michael (Taryn) Strobel, Kathryn (Richard) Kwant, Timothy (Samantha) Jones, Justin Jones, Alyssa Jones and significant other Albert Perfors, Cameron Tokar-Jones , Logan and Lucas Buening; step grandchildren Jeremy, Brandon, Matthew and Daniel Sagath and his great grandchildren Landon and Willow Perfors. Also surviving is a sister Joann Hanlon, Wooster, OH and Brother Paul (Marion Horwatt) Strobel, Natrona and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother John Strobel and sisters Rose Benvenuti and Shirley Smith.
Visitation 6-8 PM Sunday and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday in the Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526 where a prayer service will be held Tuesday at 9:30 am followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum with Rev. Thomas L. Gillespie, MD, officiating. Burial in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Twp.
