John Figler, 92, of Natrona Heights, passed away at home on Monday, July 19, 2021 following an extended illness. He was born February 18, 1929 in Creighton to the late John and Susan (Kotora) Figler, Jr. John lived most of his life in Natrona Heights. He was a printer for former Carnegie Institute, retiring in 1993 and prior to that was employed at the University of Pittsburgh, Greek Catholic Union and PPG Industries in Creighton. John was a veteran of the Korean era serving in the US Army. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Tarentum, District #1 President Greek Catholic Union, Tarentum eagles where he was the past auditor, life member Brackenridge American Legion ad member Natrona Heights VFW. John graduated in 1947 from East Deer High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. John was very active in his church as a church council member and former Holy Name Society and many other organizations, including model ship society and was a former scout master, Birdville Troop 186.
Survivors include his children, John M. (Margaret) Figler, of Tarentum and Sandra J. Recker, of Duncansville, PA. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a daughter in law Nancy Figler, of Huntington, WVA. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia (Semko) Figler, son Robert J. Figler, and two sisters, Anna Mae Figler and Helen Troyan.
Visitation , Thursday 2-4 and 6 until the time of the Panachida at 7 PM in the Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, where a parastas will be held on Friday at 9:30 followed by a Divine Liturgy at 10 am in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Tarentum. Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer twp. with military honors by US Army and Vandergrift Memorial Unit. Family suggests contributions be made to Sts.
