John J. Godfrey, 70, of Natrona Heights, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday, April 7, 2023. He was born October 10, 1952 in Harrison Township to the late Wilbert and Shirley (Southward) Godfrey. John lived most of his life in Tarentum and Harrison Township. He was the best crane man ever at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge where he worked for 33 years retiring in 2005. John was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Freeport and a 1971 graduate of Highlands High School. He was an avid archery hunter and loved fishing at Pymatuning and his camp in Tidioute, PA.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Karen (Dobradenka) Godfrey; his son J. Patrick (Shannon) Godfrey, of Brackenridge and his grandchildren Chase Godfrey, Nolan Loskoch, Mason Smith, Payton Godfrey, Zander Godfrey and Katlyn (James) Pertinaci. Also surviving are his brothers Bill A. Godfrey, of Natrona and Arthur R. (Christine) Godfrey, of Buffalo Township, nephew Gentry (Sami) Kerwood, of Ft. Wayne, IN and his special cousins Ed, Jeff “Goose”, Mark “Tuff” and Mike Matuizek. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Kelly Nicole Smith in 2007, grandson Gabriel Smith his in laws Amel and Terry Dobradenka and uncle Rich Matuizek.
Visitation 2-8 PM Monday in Duster Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Christian funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 1 PM in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Freeport. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Lower Burrell.
