John E. “Jack” Momberger, 77, of Rural Ridge, died unexpectedly at the home of his daughter in Massachusetts on Thursday, November 23, 2017. Jack was born on December 30, 1939 in Tarentum, PA, oldest child of the late J. Edward Momberger and Emelia (Basnak) Momberger. After graduating from Tarentum High, Jack enlisted in the Navy where he served for five years as a Seabee. Upon return to civilian life, he met his future wife who had grown up mere blocks from him. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and spent his career as an applications engineer with Wheelebrator Air Pollution Control and EMCI. He built a home in Rural Ridge PA, where they raised their children and have lived for the past 35 years. Jack was a lifelong outdoorsman who loved to fish and was a member of Trout Unlimited and the Tri-County Trout Club. He was a certified fishing skills instructor for children and founded a program called “Fish for Fun” teaching children with mental and physical challenges to fish. Upon his retirement Jack developed a strong interest in music and became an enthusiastic member of the Steel City Ukuleles group. He and his wife loved to travel and made friends everywhere they went. He was a former board member of the Spina Bifida Association Western PA and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 644 and the American Slovak Protective Society of East Deer Township. He was known for his humor, his stories, and his willingness to help out when anything needed fixing. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Geraldine A. (Yeasted) Momberger, a daughter Kelly Momberger, of Worcester MA, a son Daniel Momberger and his wife Buffy, of Beaver Falls, a son Bradley Momberger, of Worcester MA, brother Chuck Momberger and wife Sandy of Sarver, sister Judy Taraborrelli and husband Nick, from Tarentum, and a brother Keith, and wife Betty of Pembroke NH. He also left behind many nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth. Visitation 6-8PM Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526 where a Prayer service will be held on Friday at 9:30 am followed by a Christian funeral Mass in Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum with Rev. Thomas L. Gillespie, MD, officiating. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Tarentum with Navy honors.
