John J. Thimons

John J. Thimons, 97, of East Deer Township, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Kane Community Living Center, Scott Township. He was born February 24, 1929 in Tarentum, to the late John E. and Stefania (Mahdik) Thimons. John has lived his entire life in the area. He was employed for 24 years at Westinghouse Electric, Turtle Creek and PPG Co, in Creighton. John worked as a welder, machine repair, glass cutter and millwright. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Navy receiving a WWII Victory medal. John was a member of the former Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum and member of Disabled American Veterans, VFW and American Legion. He graduated from Tarentum High School in 1947 and Penn State University, McKeesport, Pa. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially enjoyed time with his family.

Survivors include his sons, Robert (Karen) Thimons, James (Cheryl) Thimons, Michael (Mary Ann)Thimons, John S. Thimons and William (Bobbi Jo) Thimons; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Charles Thimons and Dorothy Mae Molnar. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (Wess) Thimons, sister Irene (Edward) Wielobob, John’s companion Lisa and in-laws Katherine Ann Thimons and Donald Molnar.
