Josephine M. Freshwater, 96, of Tarentum and Bradenton Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at home, Thursday, September 30, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born June 21, 1925 in Tarentum to the late Joseph and Mary (Kalzenski) Denis. Josephine lived most of her life in the Tarentum area. Josephine was a member of Guardian Angels Parish, Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum and the Red Hat Society of Bradenton Beach. Josephine was very involved in her children’s activities, football, YMCA and band. Her and her late husband Kenneth enjoyed attending his annual Army reunion in various states around the country. She worked five years at Petersons Greenhouse, volunteered for Fawn Township Election board and received the PPG award for Volunteerism. Josephine served two terms as President for the Tarentum VFW ; 5 years as secretary for Senior Citizen’s in Tarentum and most recently was the Manager at a Retirement Community for 9 years in Bradenton Beach, FL. Her most precious times were those spent with her family, children and grandchildren, but she especially enjoyed visits with her great grandchildren and her great great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Juanita Graham, of Tarentum, Barbara Dobrowolski, of Natrona Heights, Mary Lou (Chad) Cohen, of Natrona Heights, Joseph (Mary) Freshwater, of Saratoga Springs, NY, Louise (Mark) Fiorina, of Lower Burrell, Ronald (Candis) Freshwater, of Leechburg, Joanne (Robert) Wislie, of Natrona Heights, Mark (Robin) Freshwater, of Canton, OH and Paul (Tracy) Freshwater, of Fawn Twp. Also surviving are 32 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth L. Freshwater, Sr., sons Alan, Kenneth, Jr and Harry Freshwater, daughter Jeanne Tarpley ; grandson Kevin Dobrowolski and sisters Dolores “Dee” Leopardi and Louise Emmanuel.
Visitation Sunday 12-4 PM in the Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Christian funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 AM in Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum.
