Kelly Ann Momberger, born in Pittsburgh on December 27, 1970, died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest in her home in Worcester, Massachusetts, on October 28, 2021. A 1989 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Natrona Heights, she earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Villanova University in 1993 and a Masters in Environmental Engineering from the University of Delaware in 1995. Upon graduation, she was employed by Weston; Dufresne Henry Consulting Engineers; and from 2000 to her death was employed by the State of Massachusetts Dept. of Environmental Protection Central Regional Office, where she worked in Public and Drinking Water Support as Permit Branch Chief. In addition, she served on the Board of the Sprinkler Factory. She used her organizational and creative talents to take on the social media advertising, web design and upkeep for KrafTea Kombucha Company, where she helped on weekends.
A dedicated environmentalist all her life, Kelly was a woman of passion and compassion. Feisty, independent, and funny, Kelly has a list of achievements that rival others of far more years. In half a century, besides working for clean water, she was a master knitter, an extraordinary seamstress, an interior decorator, a creative chef, a web designer, and a “party virtuoso.” Her home was an ongoing project, and much of the work she did herself. That home was a gathering place for a host of friends. Kelly was gifted with the ability to gather strangers together and form friendships. As one friend remarked, Kelly’s motto was “If it can’t be a party, let it be a game. If not a game, let it be a puzzle.”
Kelly loved Worcester and the arts. Her love of theater began in high school, was nurtured while running the box office at Villanova, and blossomed into being a contributing force behind Shakespeare in the Park. She joined the Arts Council in Worcester, and brought Make Music Day to Worcester while serving as Chair. She also was Creative Organizer with Cirque Du Noir.
A fierce advocate for women’s rights, justice and equality for all, Kelly spoke for those whose voices were often not heard. Generous with time and talent, she volunteered to help non-profits raise funds.
Kelly was the beloved granddaughter of the late J. Edward and Emelia Momberger and Lawrence and Madeline Yeasted. The cherished daughter of Geraldine (Gerri) and the late John Momberger, her survivors include two brothers: Daniel (Pittsburgh) and Bradley (Worcester), significant other Matthew Glidden (Worcester), uncles, aunts, cousins, and countless friends.
