Natrona Heights

Kimberly Lynn Murray Ickes (Kim), 77, of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, formerly of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away on November 11, 2025 at St. Margaret’s Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Her kind, loving spirit and calming, steady presence will forever be missed.

Born January 9, 1948, in Lorain, Ohio, Kim was the daughter of Harland Murray and Lauretta Hoffman Murray. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up with her sister, Barb (Steve) Murray Ridenbaugh, in Harrison, Ohio, attending William Henry Harrison High School, and graduating in 1966. Kim played piano and flute, participated in basketball and marching band, and spent her days listening to her beloved transistor radio and riding her 10 speed around town. She fondly remembered her upbringing in Harrison and cherished her lifelong friends.

A pharmacist by trade, Kim attended Ohio Northern University and graduated in 1971. After graduating, an internship brought her back to her birthplace of northeast Ohio, where she would begin her career. Kim’s pharmacy career spanned 42 years and included community pharmacy and specialty pharmacy, culminating in owning and operating two retail pharmacies in Vermilion and Sandusky, Ohio with her husband, Jim. She was known for her precision and compassion, never shying away from taking an after-hours call at home from a community member.

Kim met her husband of nearly 52 years, Jim Ickes, in 1970, marrying in 1974. The two rarely spent a day apart and their devoted love was the foundation of their family. She is also survived by her son, Chris Ickes of Venetia, PA and her daughter, Katie Ickes of Pittsburgh. Kim delighted in raising her children with Jim in South Park, PA, where they enjoyed a loving family life of holiday traditions, block parties with neighbors and friends, and cherished memories.

Kim enjoyed embroidery and sewing, and crafted many halloween costumes and clothing for her children over the years. Kim was also an avid reader and was always looking for the next great novel to dive into. A talented cook, she welcomed friends and family to her home regularly and was always on the lookout for a great recipe to share.

Above all else, Kim’s warmth and loving nature shone through in everything she did. She will forever be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her, especially her husband and children.

A memorial celebration to honor her memory will take place in the spring in Vermilion, Ohio.
