Louise C. Walters

April 20, 1928 — July 19, 2022

Louise “Grama Lou” Claire (Jacobs) Walters, 94, formerly of Fawn Twp., passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022 in the home she lovingly shared with her granddaughter and caregiver, Dawna.  Louise was born April 20, 1928 in Brackenridge, the daughter of the late John T. Jacobs and Gertrude “Trudy” Keller Jacobs.  She had grown-up in Tarentum and then in Fawn Township, residing in PA for 87 years before moving to TN where she lived the last six and a half years.  Louise worked at PPG and then became a homemaker for much of her children’s younger lives.  Later, she was a receptionist for TW Phillips Gas in Tarentum before she retired.  She was a faithful member of Guardian Angels Parish, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Natrona Heights and attended St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Old Hickory, TN as her health and mobility allowed.  She was a 1946 graduate of Tarentum High School and attended Business Training College in Pittsburgh PA.

Louise enjoyed knitting, quilting, baking cookies, traveling and especially spending time with her very close family.  She was a member of the church’s quilting group and handmade dozens of “cuddle quilts” she called them, for the Linus Organization and also for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was an integral contributor to the family’s charity, Gifts for the Unborn, started by her brother in 1987.  It is estimated that she personally knit between 2500-3000 pairs of baby booties over the years, including approximately 1000 in the last six and a half years alone!

Louise married the love of her life, Claude D. “Chick” Walters on June 12, 1948 and they were happily married for 66 years.  She was preceded in death by her devoted husband and their son, Robert Mark Walters; both of Fawn Township.  Survivors include their children; David A. (Dee) Walters, of Gautier, MS and Janice (Mark) Levine, of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Dawna Louise Walters, Kim Rumery, Rebecca Watkins, Meagan Robinson, Jennifer, Jaclyn and Matthew Levine; ten great-grandchildren; her brother, Lt. Col. Richard “Rich” (Lorelle) Jacobs, of Austin, TX; and three nephews and two nieces.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Sunday, July 24 at DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 347 E. 10th Avenue, Tarentum, 724-224-1526.  A funeral mass will be held at 12pm Monday, July 25th at Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Natrona Heights.  Interment will follow in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.  VISIT:dusterfh.com
