Mary Ellen Kuniak, 95, of Frazer Township passed away Sunday October 6, 2024 at home following a lengthy illness. She was born August 14, 1929 in Tarentum, PA and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alma (Gordon) Jentgens. She lived in Tarentum until 1954 and then when married moved to Frazer Township for the rest of her life.
She was most happy being a homemaker taking care of her family and their families. She was well known for her exceptional talents in cooking and baking, especially when it came to making ethnic foods. She worked in her younger days for Sears in Natrona Heights, and in her later years, she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandkids. She graduated from Tarentum High School. She was a member of Sacred Heart which became Holy Martyr’s Catholic Church, followed by Guardian Angels Parish all of her life. She was a CCD teacher and was part of their Christian Mothers and chaired many dinners and activities highlighted by an all family and relative participation event celebrating together Corpus Christi and the making of traditional sawdust carpets. She also looked forward to going to bingo and shopping with her sister, joining with her friends at card club, flower planting, and was an excellent painter.
Survivors include her sons, David A. Kuniak and Daniel S. Kuniak of Frazer and her grandchildren Stephen F. (Abra) Kuniak, of Greensburg and Elizabeth R. (Sean) Maxa, of McCandless, Stephanie Kuniak and Kelly Kuniak, of Pittsburgh Oakland, numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Sadie.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Stephen J. “Chep” Kuniak, their sons Dr. Stephen A. Kuniak, of Lower Burrell, Dr. Michael P. Kuniak, of Freedom, PA, her sisters Dorothy Hewitt, Elizabeth Jentgens (who was 105 years old) and Alma “Honey” Guido and brother William Jentgens.
There will be no public visitation, however family and friends are invited to attend a Christian funeral mass at 12 PM Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Natrona Heights. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township. A luncheon will be served at the Kuniak’s residence after the burial.
