Nora Jacobs

  Nora Waterman Jacobs, 87, of Natrona Heights Pennsylvania passed away Saturday May 5, 2018 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries Nursing Care Facility in Fox Chapel Pennsylvania. She was born July 28, 1930 in Ann Arbor Michigan, daughter of the late Herrick Waterman and Margaret (Hornkohl) Waterman.  She was a graduate of Leland School and attended Michigan State University majoring in Home Economics. She married Conway J. Smith June 6, 1951 who preceded her in death February 12, 2012. She married her second husband, John T. (Doc) Jacobs of Tarentum Pennsylvania, October 13, 1996 in Traverse City Michigan.  She lived married to John 13 years until his death at the age of 105. She was raised on the Waterman family cherry farm on Horn Road in Leland Township.  She was known to most country farmers through her 15 year career through 4-H County Extension services primarily tasked with the recruitment of 4-H leaders.  She was a member of the Suttons Bay Congregational Church Choir and was well known for her crafting skill in knitting, quilting, rug braiding to mention a few. December 1995, Nora met John Jacobs at an Elderhostel in Berea Kentucky.  It was John’s 78th Elderhostel and Nora’s first.  Together they attended over 60 more of the adult learning opportunities. In their Tarentum home they assembled a cottage industry where they created and donated over 2 million pairs of booties for premature babies.  They also created scores of quits for returning disabled war veterans.  She was active in the community in various organizations including the Tarentum Book Club, Christian Women’s group and Ladies Aqua Aerobics. Nora is survived by her sons Brook David (Nancy) Smith of London KY, Blake Herrick (Lorrie) Smith of Traverse City MI and daughter Pamela Carrol Smith-Bell of Suttons Bay MI, grand and great grandchildren.
