Richard Glenn Hartzel, age 79, of Natrona Heights, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Eileen Hartzel.
Born May 11, 1947 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, Richard was the son of the late Francis Hartzel and Judith Hartzel.
He is survived by his loving children, Richard Hartzel Jr. (Suzanne Hartzel) and Tammy (Hartzel) Alleva (Frank). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Brooke Hartzel, Richard G. Hartzel III, Daniel Alleva, and Dominic Alleva.
Richard is also survived by his siblings, Pamela Nold and Timothy Hartzel.
Richard attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his degree before settling in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He dedicated many years of service to the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, where he served as a supervisor until his retirement.
A man deeply rooted in his faith, Richard was an active member of his church community for many years. He found great joy in fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors, but most of all in being surrounded by his family. He had a lifelong love of animals, especially his many dogs and cats, including his beloved dog, Penny.
Richard will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his steadfast faith, his kindness, and the quiet strength he carried throughout his life.
Memorial visitation will be held Friday, May 29, 2026 from 9 AM until the time of service at 11 AM in Duster Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum. Burial will be private. VISIT: dusterfuneralhomeinc.com
