Robert Lee Simmons, 90 of Natrona Heights, passed away at home Saturday, August 21, 2021 after being ill for many years. He was born February 16, 1931 in Perry, FL to the late Emanuel Bee and Ollie Mae Simmons. Robert has lived in Brackenridge and Natrona Heights since 1950. He was a crane man for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge for 30 + years. Robert was a member of Bethel AME Church, Tarentum, IBPOE of World, New Kensington Elks where he served as exalted ruler and was a graduate of Pittsburgh Academy. Robert was raised by his grandparents Rev. Charlie Simmons and Ollie West Simmons and his aunts, uncles, James, Johnny, Albert, Rebecca, Arabelle and Pauline. Robert was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army.
Survivors include his wife E. Gertrude (Kendall) Simmons; daughter Paula Renee Simmons-Brown, of Arnold; son Roderick Hughley, of New Kensington and daughters Sherri Freeman, of Penn Hills and Cherese “Dede” Benson, of Arnold. Also surviving are his grandchildren Cody, Jayce Nolen great grandchildren Julien and Josiah Nolen. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a step mother Bertha Bea and a number of brothers and sisters.
