Rosemary T. Mazza, 93 passed away peacefully October 17, 2024 with her family by her side at the Logan Place Assisted Living in Lower Burrell where she resided for the last four months. She was born on May 5, 1931, Cinco de Mayo. She was preceded in death by her parents Gertrude and Ralph Coward and brothers Robert and Ralph Coward. Rosemary grew up in West Tarentum and graduated from Tarentum High School in 1949 and also resided in Freeport for 36 years. Rosemary was known to everyone as Momma Maz or Grandma Bling. She loved to play bingo and was always ready for a trip to the Rivers Casino. She was a member of Top Cats bowling league in Lower Burrell for over 50 year and a member of Christian Mothers at former Holy Martyrs Church in West Tarentum where she also ran the weekly bingo.
Rosemary loved to make her mother’s apricot and cherry tarts on Christmas Eve with her children and grandchildren. Rosemary’s first husband Donald Bartoli was killed in South Korea on December 4, 1951 a day after his 21st birthday, six months after they were married. She then married Carl Mazza in 1956. Carl passed away in 1990 at 59 years young. They were married 34 years and had 7 children.
Our family would like to thank Monarch Hospice, especially mom’s caregiver Vanita who mom had a very special bond with the last 3 years, her nurse Chrissy and the staff from the Logan Place for taking such good care of her and treating her #1. Mom was truly blessed to be in such a beautiful place with such caring people.
She is survived by her children Christopher C.(Belinda) Mazza of GA, Carlene M. (late husband Michael who passed 1/30/2024) Kalwarski, of Natrona Heights, Lisa M. Wray, of Freeport, Karen L. Mazza, of Natrona Heights, Thomas J. (Lisa) Mazza, of Lower Burrell, Daniel R. (Laura) Mazza, of Fawn Twp. And Patricia J. (James) Bieranowski, of Freeport. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and sister Marlene Scalise of Florida.
Visitation will be Tuesday 2-8 pm in Duster Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave Tarentum (724)224-1526. Christian funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10 am in Guardian Angels Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Campus, Natrona Heights with Father Thomas L. Gillespie, MD officiating.
