Thomas S. Callender

Thomas S. Callender, the self-proclaimed “Mr. Nice Guy”, 65, of Winfield Township, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospice of Concordia, Cabot following a courageous battle with Dementia and cancer. He was taken by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into eternal glory. He was born March 6, 1956 in Harrison Township to the late James C. and Jeannette (Prignon) Callender. Tom lived the past 35 years in Winfield Twp., and worked in Research and Development for Calgon Carbon Corp.,  Moon Township for 35 years, retiring in 2019. He was a life long member of Bull Creek Presbyterian Church, West Deer Township, where he met the love of his life, Becky Lincoln. She fell in love with Tom at the age of 12, but it took Tom a few years to jump on board. They were united in marriage on June 12, 1976. Tom graduated from Deer Lakes High School in 1974 where he was a track star. He held the record for many years in the 100-yard dash. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing and singing in the choir at Bull Creek and Simply 4 Jesus quartet. He especially enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and his grandchildren.

            Survivors include his wife of 45 years Rebecca L. “Becky” (Lincoln) Callender; daughter Katie S. (Joseph) Perry, of Pittsburgh and daughter-in-law Selena M. (Vokes) Callender, of Natrona Heights; grandchildren Marissa, Alison, Abigale, Tommy and Ethan Callender, Chloe and Logan McAnallen and 7 step grandchildren Parker, Josh, Ian, Simon, Olivia, Zoe and Madison Perry. Also surviving are his siblings Gail R. Callender, of Frazer Twp., Mark E. (Valerie) Callender, of Palm Harbor, FL, Marie E. Conley, of Arnold and Martin P. Callender, of Shaler Twp. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son Thomas P. Callender in 2017; brothers James L., Gary R. and Clifford A. Callender who passed away May 17, 2021.

            Tom was very adamant that he wanted to be laid up with his hand extended to greet his mourners, but much to his dismay he will be laid out beginning Monday from 6-8 PM and Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at Bull Creek Presbyterian Church, West Deer Twp. with his Pastor Robert Henry, officiating. Burial will be in Bull Creek Cemetery, West Deer Twp.
