Walter J. Kissel, 82, of Lower Burrell, passed away unexpectedly at home on his 82nd birthday, Monday, February 3, 2025. He was born February 3, 1943 in Harrison Township, son of the late Walter M. and Stella C. (Chupek) Kissel. Walter lived the past 48 years in Lower Burrell. He was a professional Consulting Engineer for several Pittsburgh engineering firms for 40 years before retiring in 2005. Walter was a member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell and a member of Frazer Sportsman Club. He graduated from Tarentum High School in 1960 and Washington University, St. Louis with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Walter enjoyed his motorcycle, boating, fishing and smoking cigars with his friend Philip Heidinger. He especially enjoyed his family, children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 58 1/2 years, Carol Ann (Derikart) Kissel; his children Bradley (Sandy) Kissel, of Sun City Center, FL, Jennifer Giltinan, of Hudson, OH, Michael Kissel, of Damascus, MD and Stacy (Eric) Luna, of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren Liam Giltinan, Elijah and Sophia Luna. Also surviving are his sister, Marlene Donnelly and sister-in-law Debbie Kissel. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Richard Kissel, sister Nancy Baker and her husband William Baker.
Visitation 4-7 PM Friday in Duster Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Christian funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10AM in St. Margaret Mary Church, Lower Burrell. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.
