Walter J. “Jim” Powell, 71, of Brackenridge, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was born August 21, 1950 in Natrona Heights to the late William and Orpha (Blystone) Powell. Jim lived most of his life in Brackenridge. He was a Welder for 30 years at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge. Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam Era serving in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of Guardian Angels Parish, St. Joseph Church, Natrona and was also a former Scout leader. Jim graduated in 1968 from Har Brack High School. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, enjoyed traveling and his past time of sitting on his porch drinking coffee. Jim especially enjoyed his family, children and most of all his grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, James M. (Kelly) Powell, of Fawn Twp., Amy R. (Michael) Baer, of West Kittanning, Keith A. (Camilla) Powell, of Saratoga Springs, NY, Michael J. (Emily) Powell, of Saxonburg, and 10 grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Karen Ann (Vertosick) Powell in 2020; brothers Louis, Richard, William and Donald Powell and sisters Betty Jones, Diana Kendall, Shirley Hoak and Alice Sample.
Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday in the Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave, Tarentum, 724-224-1526 where a blessing service will be held on Monday at 10AM. Burial will be in Mt. Airy Mausoleum, Natrona Heights with military honors. Allegheny Valley Marine Corps League will hold services Sunday at 7pm in the funeral home. At the request of the family, masks are required.
