William Sadecky Sr, 92 of New Kensington, (formerly of Tarentum) passed away Monday February 7, 2022 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot. He was born September 24, 1929 in Tarentum, son of the late Joseph and Mary Solar Sadecky.
Bill was a 1947 Graduate of Tarentum High School graduating in the top 5% of his class and enlisted in the Army immediately after graduation. After completing basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia SC, Bill was selected to attend the Army’s Potential Leadership School Program. Following his completion of the program he was assigned to the Civilian Surveillance Unit stationed in Japan under the direction of General Douglas McArthur. Following his discharge from the Army, Bill enrolled at Duquesne University graduating in 1954 with his Bachelor’s Degree, and went on to complete three additional years of education at Duquesne’s School of Law.
While attending Duquesne Bill met his wife Gertrude through her brother who also attended Duquesne at the same time. Bill married Gertrude on April 19, 1951. They were married for 53 years before her passing in 2004. While in college Bill worked at Glenshaw Glass and PPG before joining Allegheny Ludlum’s Corporate Office in 1956. Bill worked in various capacities during his tenure and retired in 1996 after a 40 year career as their Assistant Treasurer.
Bill was an avid hunter during his earlier years and enjoyed getting away and working on property he had in Washington PA. He also enjoyed model railroading, his classic cars, and attended numerous model train and car related events each year. He was a member of the Train Collectors Association and the Antique Auto Club of America.
Bill is survived by his daughter Ritha Jean of New Kensington, his son William (Frances) Sadecky Jr of Lower Burrell, and was the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, Krista Sadecky of Tampa Florida, and William Sadecky III of Lower Burrell. Bill is also survived by sister Elaine Curley of Irwin, brothers, Carl (Joan) Sadecky of New Kensington, Clement Sadecky of Dayton, Steve (Marie) Sadecky of Sanford Florida, sister-in laws Mary, Janet, and Julia Sadecky and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Gertrude and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Josephine Sadecky and Martha Dillon, and by his brothers Camille, Bela, and Joseph Sadecky.
Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in Duster Funeral Home, Inc. 347 E 10th Ave. Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Christian funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10AM at Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum with Father Arron J. Kriss as Celebrant. Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township.
